Here are two things everyone wants.
1) Connection.
We all need to know that we are part of society. We achieve this by being connected to others in some way. This is why we seek friends.
So use the days ahead to give connections.
Call people to say hello. Ask them about their news. Be friendly, be kind, be gracious. Accept what they say. Just listen. And then give them the second thing everyone wants.
2) Acknowledgment.
We all need to know that we matter. We must feel that some part of our life counts for something. This validates our sense of purpose.
So use your connections to acknowledge others.
Accept what they are doing. Allow them to talk. Then find something good in what they tell you.
Of course, refrain from criticizing, giving advice (which is really criticism in a pretty wrapper), or attempting to tell a better story.
Just let them be themselves.
Notice that there is an additional, important gift contained in these. When you connect and acknowledge, you lift people to a better sense of self by making them feel special or important.
That is, ideally, you are helping others become stronger, more powerful, and better than you are. You are making them the star in your conversation. You are helping them create success for themselves.
You must must know that great leaders do this all the time. They serve like a powerful beam of light, sending respectful kindness that nourishes everyone. This is why others are attracted to them, inspired by them, and enhanced by them.
Key Point: You can give the gifts that matter at any time. It's the mark of a great leader.
Much success,
